Rowan’s new School of Engineering is the result of a
$100-million donation from industrialist Henry Rowan, which established a new engineering program and ultimately led to a name change for the University.  Administrators at Rowan University designated the site for the new engineering school before the architect was selected.  However, upon understanding what the building was to accomplish physically – extend the campus fabric, create a sense of arrival at the campus edge, enhance the student circulation pathways to the heart of the University, and be highly visible as a testimony to Henry and Betty Rowan – Ballinger recommended a different location, one which could engage a pond that ultimately became its central focus.
