BROWN IS THE NEW SILVER
March 2009, Providence, RI – Brown University's Sidney E. Frank Hall for Life Sciences has achieved LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Designed by Ballinger, the five-story, 173,000 SF life sciences facility achieved 34 points for credits in the required categories of Sustainable Site, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation & Design Process. A few sustainable design highlights of the building include brownfield site development, Energy Star rated roofing product, water efficient landscaping and optimum energy performance through envelope improvements, improved insulation, lower lighting power densities and improved mechanical systems.

TERRY STEELMAN ELEVATED TO AIA COLLEGE OF FELLOWS
February 2009, Philadelphia, PA – Terry Steelman, Design Principal for Ballinger, was recently one of 112 architects elevated to The American Institute of Architects' prestigious College of Fellows. This honor is bestowed upon AIA members who have made contributions of national significance to the profession. Since joining Ballinger in 1992, Mr. Steelman has led planning and design efforts for major clients including GlaxoSmithKline, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Brown University. Mr. Steelman will be formally invested in the College of Fellows at the 2009 AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in San Francisco in May.

BALLINGER ASSOCIATE ARCHITECT FOR PRINCETON'S ANDLINGER CENTER
February 2009, Philadelphia, PA – Ballinger will be Associate Architect for Princeton University's Andlinger Center, teaming again with the award-winning New York firm Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects on another high-profile commission. The newly created center will provide shared laboratory facilities, including nanofabrication and clean room space, an imaging center, and labs for research involving, among other areas, photonics for combustion diagnostics, energy storage, remote sensing for environmental applications, and solar cell technology. It will include flexible lab and teaching spaces that foster collaboration across disciplines and with researchers from industry.

BROWN'S LIFE SCIENCES BUILDING RECEIVES AIA HONOR
December 2008, Providence, RI – Brown University's Sidney E. Frank Hall for Life Sciences has been honored with a Merit Award by the Rhode Island Chapter of The American Institute of Architects. Designed by Ballinger, the five-story, 173,000 SF life sciences facility features 62 offices, 30 laboratories, 10 conference rooms and a 98-seat seminar room. The building houses the University’s main biomedical imaging facility as well as a new 3-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging machine, which allows scientists to peer into the bone and soft tissue of living humans. The building connects into the BioMedical Center, creating a hub of life science research and further promoting the cross-disciplinary collaboration on the campus.

BALLINGER MODERN HEALTHCARE DESIGN AWARD DOUBLE WINNER
September 2008, Philadelphia, PA – Ballinger was honored with two of the six design awards given out in the 23rd annual Modern Healthcare Design Awards program. The new Weill Greenberg Center for Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, NY received an Award of Excellence and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital's Lakefront Tower received a Citation. The awards program recognizes excellence in the design and planning of new and remodeled healthcare facilities. Ballinger was the only double winner amongst submitting firms.

BALLINGER TEAMS WITH WILLIAMS/TSIEN ON BARNES FOUNDATION ART EDUCATION CENTER
January 2008, Philadelphia, PA – Ballinger was selected by The Barnes Foundation and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects as Associate Architect for the new Art Education Center on Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The new building will house the institution's world-renowned art collection in galleries that will replicate the scale, proportion and configuration of the existing galleries in Merion, PA. In addition, the center will provide a substantial increase in space for art education programs, in the form of classrooms, seminar rooms, and an auditorium.
